How to compare your Shopify CSV with your store before you import
When you import a CSV and tick “Overwrite products with matching handles”, Shopify replaces your products with what's in the file. An empty cell can erase a description. A renamed size can set its inventory to 0. So before you import, compare the file with an export of your store. Skuvera tells you what would change, fills back what would be lost and gives you a restore file. It all runs in your browser.
Palabras que verá
- Store export
- A CSV of the products in your store right now. You download it in Shopify admin, under Products › Export.
- Overwrite
- An option in Shopify's import window. When it's ticked, each product in your file replaces the product with the same URL handle in your store.
- URL handle
- The end of a product's web address, such as stoneware-mug. Shopify uses it to match the rows in your file with the products in your store.
- Variant
- One version of a product, such as a size or a color. Each variant has its own price, SKU and inventory.
Seis pasos para importar con más seguridad
1Export the products in your store
In Shopify admin, open Products and click Export. Choose All products, then click Export products. Either file format works. If you have a lot of products, Shopify emails you a link to the file. Don't edit this file. It's a snapshot of your store as it is now.
Centro de ayuda de Shopify: Exportar productos2Open the file you want to import in Skuvera
Go to the checker and choose your file. The checker looks for problems that would stop the import. If it finds some, select “Fix everything”. If it finds none, select “Export file”. Your file stays in your browser.

Select “Download file”. Skuvera asks if these products are already in your store. Choose “Yes”, then select “Next: compare with your store”. Drop the store export from step 1 into the box. The comparison starts right away.

The report tells you what the import would do to your store. “Needs a look” lists data you would lose, like an erased description. “Make sure these are what you want” lists big changes that may be on purpose, like a price cut in half. Open a line to see which products it's about.

For each problem, Skuvera has already ticked the safest option and marked it “Handled”. Empty cells are filled back with what's in your store now. Products whose variants would be rebuilt are held back in a separate file. If a change is what you want, untick it. Each choice takes effect right away.
En Skuvera:Resuelto6Download the files and import
Select the download button at the bottom. You need a free Skuvera account to download. Then, in Shopify admin, go to Products › Import and choose the import file. Tick “Overwrite products with matching handles”. Otherwise Shopify skips the products that are already in your store.

Lo que encuentra la comparación de ejemplo
The sample is a made-up home goods store called Fernwick Home. Its store export has 7 products. The file to import changes 6 of them, adds 1 new product and leaves 1 out. Each product shows one kind of problem. This is what the comparison finds.

Los archivos que descarga
With the safe choices on, the sample gives you up to 4 files in one zip. The restore file is included only with Pro. The file names start with the name of your file.
Import file (…-shopify-ready.csv)
This is the one you import into Shopify. In the sample, it has every product except the cushion cover. The lost data is already filled back.
Needs info (…-needs-info.csv)
Products you held back, or that still have errors. In the sample, it's the cushion cover. Check the new size name, then import this file on its own.
Change list (…-safe-import-changes.csv)
Every cell Skuvera filled back from your store. In the sample: the tea towel's description, the serving board's vendor and the blanket's price. Open it in a spreadsheet to see what was filled in.
Restore file (…-restore.csv, Pro)
A copy of your store export, only for the products this import will still change. In the sample, that's the mug and the vase. If something looks wrong after the import, import this file with overwrite ticked.
Lo que el archivo de restauración puede y no puede recuperar
The restore file is a copy of these products as they were in your store before the import. Importing it puts back the columns that are in the file.
Recupera:
- Prices, compare-at prices and costs
- Titles, descriptions, vendors and tags
- Variant names, such as sizes and colors
No puede recuperar:
- Collections. Shopify's export doesn't include them. If the import moved products between collections, fix that in Shopify admin.
- New products. An import can't delete products. Products added by the import are listed in a separate file, so you can delete them in Shopify admin.
- Variant IDs. A deleted or rebuilt variant comes back as a new variant with a new ID. Apps, ads or links that use the old ID need to be set up again.
- Inventory. The restore file doesn't change inventory. Check your stock in Shopify admin.
Before you import the restore file, export your store again and compare it in Skuvera. Then you'll see exactly what it will change.
Qué es gratis y qué es Pro
The comparison and the report are free. To download, you need a free Skuvera account. Downloading with protection on (filled-back data or held-back products) and the restore file are part of Skuvera Pro. Without Pro, you can untick the options and download, but those problems won't be fixed.
Preguntas frecuentes
- Why would an empty cell erase data in my store?
- With overwrite ticked, Shopify treats your file as the new version of each product. An empty cell means “no value”, so Shopify empties that field. A few columns work differently. An empty vendor becomes your store name, and an empty price makes Shopify reject the whole product.
- Do I need to compare if I'm only adding new products?
- No. Products that aren't in your store yet can't lose anything. When Skuvera asks if the products are already in your store, choose “No” and download the file.
- Will the import delete products that aren't in my file?
- No. A CSV import never deletes products. Products that aren't in your file stay as they are.
- Can I compare two files without checking mine first?
- Yes. On the comparison page, add your store export and your file, then select “Compare files”. You'll see every change, product by product, and you can save a PDF report. The plain-language report, the filled-back file and the restore file come with the steps above.
- What happens to my inventory?
- Skuvera doesn't change inventory. When a variant is rebuilt, its inventory starts at 0. That's why those products are held back by default. Our tests didn't show what an empty inventory cell does, so the report doesn't guess. Check your stock in Shopify admin after the import.
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- No. Both files are read in your browser and never sent to our servers.
